Despite the cliché rewards reaped of success, each individual will have their own idea of what success is and how to achieve it. Success is largely personal and what one person’s idea of success is will differ from another person’s. Success is measured through various different means such as spiritual, emotional, physical, financial, etc. and these can all interconnect and contribute towards your career success. Being profoundly efficient in any of these, satisfied with your life path, emotionally stable and happy, etc. can determine whether or not you become successful in your career. Research has found that career success is often affected by these factors, even good social and working relationships and simple happiness can determine whether or not you are able to move forward. Ultimately, you need to determine your own idea of what success means to you and move forward in that direction once you are aware of the ways in which you succee d.   Material and Financial Success So how high does money rank on your scale of importance? Cash is often a big motivator when it comes to moving forward in your career and many are holding out for that pay rise or promotion that will leave them swimming in even more cash (unless it has to go straight back out to the tax man). Money often does make the world go around, especially in business, as well as being a form of power to those who enjoy having lots of it. A large chunk of society will view success as earning a large pay cheque that leads to financial security and the ability to purchase and bask in a luxurious lifestyle. Some may simply enjoy being promoted and having authority over others, climbing the company ladder and getting to the top, which can lead to even more corporate success especially for all of those megalomaniacs lurking within your company.   Spiritual Success For the more conscientious type, success may present itself in the form of knowledge and be experienced and wise in what you do. Being the center of knowledge can be extremely rewarding and earn a lot of respect in the workplace if you know what you are doing and you are the ‘go-to-guy’ or gal. Being passionate about what you do is a reward in itself through being able to go to work every day, love your job and be able to learn more and more about the field you work in. High paid jobs that are soul destroying are not always worth it or bearable, even for a large amount of money. Being able to do a job you love for a minimal amount of money (or lots) can be a lot more satisfactory and better for your well-being too. Achieving the goals you set for yourself and surprising yourself through overcoming difficulties can be the biggest of achievements achieving itself.   Emotional Success Sometimes all it can take is to let a colleague know they are doing a good job and you appreciate what they are doing. When employees work hard, they should be recognized, praised and rewarded for their contribution towards team success as this is positive reinforcement that will encourage them to continue to work just as hard. It also makes them feel appreciated by their employer, puts them in a great mood and inspires them to progress. Employees also need to feel socially involved and happy in their job and this means successfully integrating into the team, hosting regular team building days or activities and keeping conflict to a minimum. If there is any conflict, it is important to solve this effectively in order for teammates to understand each other and different styles and approaches to work in the work environment. Employees need to have a good relationship with both their co-workers and their boss as well as with other departments and sections of the business. Negative worki ng environments can be emotional vampires and will soon drive people away or end up making things worse.   Health Success Health in the workplace is and should be a priority to most and encourages success in its own right. Health outside of work should be important enough but should be stressed, particularly in an office environment where everyone is sat down for most of the time. Staring at a screen and being idle for several hours of the day without taking breaks and stretching your legs or exercising can be extremely bad for you. You may risk developing DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) or risk straining your eyes. You may perhaps even have a high-risk job and your idea of success is remaining unharmed and healthy? Being healthy certainly does encourage success (and is a success within itself), keeping you fit, energetic and lively. The good thing about exercise is that it releases endorphins which increase positive brain activity, leading to a happier and more proactive workplace. To check that the bow hair is not too tight or too loose, place your index finger between the hair and the wooden part of the bow. If the tightness is correct, it should fit comfortably.Taking good care of your violin bow is essential to making a good sound ¦ source: Visualhunt - FloodAnother way that you can check the tightness of the bow hair is by looking at the wooden part of the bow, which should be slightly curved towards the hair. If it starts to bend outwards, the hai r is too tight.In the same way, after you have finished playing your violin, you need to loosen the horsehair before you put your bow away.To do this, simply turn the screw at the end of the bow to the left.2.           Apply rosin to the violin bowApplying rosin to the horsehair once it has been tightened is part of preparing your bow before you play the violin.Rosin is a solid amber residue which comes from tree sap. Its purpose is to provide a level of friction between the bow hair and the violin string â€" without it, the bow would simply slide over the violin strings producing no sound. Most violins are sold with rosin as part of their outfit.To apply the rosin, simply hold the bow in your right hand and the rosin in your left hand. Next, stroke the full length of the bow over the block of rosin for 20 full strokes.Once you have completed 20 strokes, try bowing a note on your violin. If it is quiet or scratchy, apply more rosin until the sound is clearer.3.           Wipe your violin down with a dust clothOnce you have finished your violin lessons or practice sessions, it is recommended that you wipe your violin down with a dry cloth.Wiping your violin will prevent any dust from building up as well as protecting the violin’s strings from a sticky build-up of rosin.You should also wipe the wooden part of your violin bow before putting it away.To wipe down your violin, you can use any dry cleaning cloth, but microfibre and dusting cloths are the most effective at removing unwanted dust from the instrument’s body, bow and strings.If you want to make sure that your cleaning cloth is doing its job properly, make sure that you wash it regularly. Washing will remove most of the dirt, however, once there has been a significant build-up of rosin, you will need to replace your cloth.4.           Put your violin awayStoring your violin safely is one of the most important parts of caring for your string instrument.The vast majority of violins, when bought, come i n cases which are made especially for their shape.These cases are designed to house the instrument safely and protect it from external damage, providing support of the violin’s most delicate parts including the neck, the bridge, the scroll the tailpiece the tuning pegs, and of course the bow. When buying a violin, make sure it comes with a proper case - whether it's a low or high-priced violin, you need to be able to store it properly.Violins are incredibly delicate instruments, which is why it is essential that they are stored correctly in their cases when they are not being played. Although this may sound extreme, keeping your violin at a temperature which is comfortable for you is the best way to prevent warping and cracks to the violin’s delicate body.So, don’t leave your violin in a freezing-cold car overnight, nor on the backseat d uring a sunny day.Humidity is also an issue which violinists need to consider.As violins are crafted from wood, they naturally exchange moisture with the surrounding air. For this reason, maintaining regular humidity levels is important for preventing warping.It is recommended that violins are kept in environments with 40%-60% humidity. How to Use a Capo 5 Useful Tips Suzy S. Have you ever been frustrated with the key of a song, and wanted to change it instantly without having to transpose everything and learn new chords? Well, now you can! Learning how to use a capo can be a lifesaver, especially if you enjoy singing along or if you frequently work with vocalists. For an easy, hands-on way to see how a capo works, try playing a normal C chord. Place your capo on the first fret. Then play the same position you just played youll notice its now half-step higher (C#). Next, move the capo to the second fret. Voila now you have the key of D. See where were going with this? As you experiment more with your capo, youll get better at recognizing which chords youre actually playing. In the meantime, consider keeping a capo chart nearby to cross-reference. Here are some additional tips to keep in mind: Check your tuning. Clamping the capo down on your strings sometimes causes them to go out of tune, so youll want to tune your guitar again when youre done using the capo. This is especially applicable for electric guitars, since the strings are so much lighter. Always place the capo slightly behind the fret never directly on top of it. Experiment with different types of capos. Spring-loaded (or trigger) capos are a popular choice, which are easier to use than a c-clamp capo. The latter type requires you to manually tighten the capo against the fret, whereas the former can be taken off quickly and with one hand. Another type is a toggle capo, which is generally the least expensive, but is also very flimsy. Shubb and Kyser are two well-known brands to check out. Use a partial capo for alternate tunings. A partial (or cut) capo covers only some of the strings. It gives off a distinct drone sound often used in Celtic music, and it also allows you to explore with alternate tunings, like Drop-D. Dont be afraid to experiment and play around with it! Watch for buzzing. If you have the capo in place, but your strings are still buzzing, try adjusting the capos position until you get a clean sound.
